Lab setup

Our lab setup and close links with the hospital mean patient samples can move quickly from clinical care to our labs for testing. Researchers can turn them into useful insights faster.

We have the following equipment and manage all safety protocols and training.

Flow cytometry

Our flow cytometry system (Beckman Coulter CytoFLEX 3-laser) supports the study of single cells in detail, including:

• analysing blood and immune cells
• identifying and profiling immune cell types (multi-parameter immune phenotyping)
• finding biomarkers linked to disease or treatment response.

Single‑cell genomics

We have a high throughput system to separate single cells for genetic analysis and prepare RNA into sequencing ready libraries (10X Genomics Chromium X). This helps researchers understand how different cells behave and respond.

Thermal cycling and molecular preparation

We offer tools and facilities for DNA and protein analysis, including copying DNA so our researchers can prepare samples, check quality and do further testing.

Equipment includes:

• Eppendorf Mastercycler Nexus Gradient PCR thermal cycler and qPCR system
• Trans-Blot Turbo transfer system for western blot transfer
• Thermo Scientific NanoDrop and Multiskan GO plate reader
• Agilent 1260 Infinity III HPLC system
• spectrophotometry and gel electrophoresis.

PC2 clinical sample processing

Our hospital labs are certified to safely handle moderate risk biological samples under PC2 biosafety standards.

We provide secure cold storage (-80 °C) for sensitive samples and chemicals, and with continuous temperature monitoring.

Equipment includes:

• Class II biosafety cabinets and ducted fume hoods
• Nikon Eclipse Ci Microscope
• Hettich Rotina 380R refrigerated benchtop centrifuge.
