Griffith University proudly hosts monthly higher degree research (HDR) meetings that bring together early career researchers in an environment where support and enthusiasm for research is the primary aim. These sessions are open to all working within Sunshine Coast Health and SCHI and aim to allow researchers to share findings, engage in teaching sessions led by experienced researchers and foster a positive culture and enthusiasm for research. Griffith and SCH are committed to expanding research and its links between clinicians and academics, ensuring research remains clinically relevant and beneficial to the Sunshine Coast community.
This month, we were pleased to have Dr Timothy Baird present. Dr Baird, a Sunshine Coast Respiratory Physician, current PhD candidate and Academic Title Holder with Griffith University, is focused on advancing next generation culture independent microbial metaomics methods to better understand acute and chronic respiratory diseases, including pleural infection, COPD, bronchiectasis, and lung cancer. His work aims to enhance disease specific characterisation of the lung microbiome in Australian cohorts, contributing to improved understanding of microbial composition, function, pathogenesis, and potential therapeutic targets.
Stay in the loop by registering your interest for the HDR support sessions!
