Nationally recognised Certificate II in Security Operations enrolments are now open.
The Certificate II in Security Operations provides students with the foundation required to obtain a Queensland security licence. Students will gain the skills needed to protect people and property, manage access points, respond to incidents, and work confidently across a range of security settings.

TAFE Queensland Security Operations educator and Sunshine Coast Health Protective Services staff member, Troy Knap, said modern security work is about much more than physical presence.
“Knowing how to de-escalate a situation and having the confidence to talk to people are the keys,” Mr Knap said. “If students can learn to communicate and problem-solve, they have a strong foundation for a career in this industry.”
“It’s a massive industry, and there will always be a need for people to feel safe.”
Mr Knap brings extensive industry experience to the classroom, having worked across the Australian Defence Force, licensed venues, events, hospitals, and major sporting environments throughout Southeast Queensland.
TAFE Queensland’s course combines theory, practical activities, and scenario-based learning to help students build confidence before entering the workforce.
“If you make mistakes in a learning environment, you are better prepared for the real world and can respond safely and effectively,” Mr Knap said.
“It can also be a useful starting point for those considering broader public safety careers, including policing, corrections, defence, or emergency services.”
In Queensland, people wishing to work as licensed unarmed security officers must complete the Certificate II in Security Operations through a registered training organisation before applying for their licence.
Security is a growing industry, with employment increasing by approximately 2,600 jobs annually and workforce growth of 4 per cent per year, well above the national workforce average of 1.5 per cent (Jobs and Skills Australia, www.jobsandskills.gov.au).
The Certificate II in Security Operations is now open for enrolments, and TAFE Queensland offers a range of payment options to help students get started.
Start date: 7 September 2026.
Duration: 10 weeks. Classes held 2 nights per week.
